Grotta Azzurra (Blue Grotto)

Grotta Azzurra (Blue Grotto)

It is a small corner of paradise in the municipality of Borgo Valbelluna, a few kilometres from Mel. Unknown until a few years ago, the Grotta Azzura Cave is now accessible thanks to a well-marked path.

You will walk on the trail, but will also have to cross the bed of the Rui stream with a dash of adventure. As you go deeper and deeper into the valley, with the high rock walls around you, after about a half hour you will come to the turquoise-colour, crystal-clear water of the Blue Grotto.

Looking for even more excitement? Try canyoning!

Curiosity and tips

  • It was a Facebook post that made this cave famous, that was previously known only to a few locals
  • Not far from the Grotto is Zumelle Castle
  • If you want to enjoy the view at a more tranquil time, come in late spring or early fall
  • Mel di Borgo Valbelluna is one of “Italy’s Most Beautiful Villages” and has the Orange Flag of the Italian Touring Club
