Amongst traditional majolica pottery and monumental trees: above Pedavena, between the village of Norcen and Val di Lamen, lies a peaceful corner away from the more popular destinations of Valbelluna.
“You will discover a real gem – the Paradisi – and an area rich in rural tradition and scenic beauty, lovingly preserved by the local people."
The walk starts from the small square or car park of the church in Norcen. As you climb, you will immediately notice dry stone walls, an ancient sign of care for the land. After passing the small villages of Valduna and Valerna, turn right along the border with the Belluno Dolomites National Park.
Leaving the woods, the view suddenly opens up onto ‘I Paradisi’ (The Paradises), a vast meadow that lives up to its name: it is a gentle basin, crowned by Mount San Mauro and the Vette Feltrine peaks. A small detour will take you to admire the largest beech tree in the Province of Belluno, a monumental giant that shades a dairy hut.
Continuing on, you will encounter another splendid beech tree and then, following the ‘Chiesette pedemontane’ (foot of the mountain churches) itinerary, a mixed forest of beeches, hornbeams, maples and ash trees. Once you reach the road coming from Val di Lamen, follow the main road (on the right) to return to Norcen.
