In the vicinity of Andraz Castle, a charming manor perched on a rock, this itinerary will take you on a journey of discovery through the woods on the slopes of Col di Lana, Sief and Settsas.
“If you are looking for a quiet and charming spot nestled in the Belluno Dolomites, where you can enjoy a simple and rejuvenating walk, this is the place for you!"
The Sentiero del Respiro (Path of Breath) is a circular route that encircles Andraz Castle. The itinerary starts right from the castle (in the municipality of Livinallongo del Col di Lana) and winds for 4 kilometres through the surrounding woods. More than just a hike, it is an experience with a profound meaning: this trail is part of a large reforestation project involving over 10,000 Swiss stone pines (the Swiss stone pine is particularly well suited to these areas). As you walk, you are literally breathing in the new life that is growing in an area that was severely affected by Storm Vaia in 2018.
Follow the signs, pass the castle and cross the small village that bears its name (Castello). Then, venture into the woods and discover points of interest, from the rock climbing wall to the old mill. You will also find a panoramic viewpoint, perfect for a break! We recommend enjoying this experience in autumn: the larch trees turn yellow, orange and gold, offering a breathtaking spectacle.
- Andraz Castle stands at an altitude of around 1,800 metres, on an erratic boulder carried downhill from the Settsass Dolomite massif during the last ice age.
- The medieval building dates back to around the year 1000, but it is thought that the original structure was even older.
- When it is open, don't miss the guided tour of the castle to immerse yourself in its thousand-year history.
