The climbing tradition here has a long history. As early as the 1950s and 1960s, the beautiful Val di Gares in Canale d’Agordo was already frequented by lovers of this adrenaline-filled sport.
Where the road ends, next to the Capanna Cima Comelle mountain hut, a trail begins leading towards the famous Cascata delle Comelle. There, at the end of the valley, a perfect horseshoe-shaped glacial cirque opens up. On the high limestone walls, climbing has developed, especially in four clearly distinct areas: the “Massi a fondo valle” sector near the hut, the “Placca dei Fiori” sector to the left of the waterfall, the “Abisso De Dea” sector to the right of the waterfall, and further up the “Falesia Alta”, a true jewel of the valley.
