The Olympic Ice Stadium is certainly the most important facility, in terms of size and commitment, built to host the ice sports disciplines of the VII Winter Olympics in 1956; it was the venue for the Official Opening Ceremony.
It is used not only for the activities of Sports Clubs (Hockey, figure skating, short track, curling, broomball) but also for tourist services such as public ice skating; there are also various sports exhibitions of Hockey, figure skating as well as various musical performances. Recently, radical renovation work has taken place, resulting in a building that is no longer "open air" but rather a covered stadium.
The Olympic Ice Stadium in Cortina was the venue for the Official Opening Ceremony of the VII Winter Olympics, and the Olympic flame shone in this facility throughout the entire duration of the Olympics, until the closing day with the ceremony held there.
