In the heart of Valmorel, just above the town center, there is Malga Montegal: a lively place always ready to welcome you with a smile. Managed by Matia, a young malgaro who wants to bring innovation and energy to the heart of the Belluno Prealps.

The malga is open in summer, from May to October. And reopens in winter, from December to March, for the cold weather enthusiasts or for those who love to walk in the snow.

By the way... Montegal is the ideal starting point for panoramic excursions at altitude. From here begin Il Giro delle Malghe and La Passeggiata di Pian delle Femene… and obviously it is part of the circuit of the Strada dei Formaggi and dei Sapori delle Dolomiti Bellunesi.

Perfect routes both on foot and by bike. And —for those who can— even on horseback!

The weekends here are special days: music, conviviality, and set menus that make you lick your fingers —made with “ Stuff you know where it comes from!”.  Then, for customers in a hurry, platters and cold dishes made with house cheeses and cold cuts are available.

The ideal spot for those seeking genuine flavors and good fun.

Montegal is a lively place: a bit Spartan, as you would expect from a malga, but welcoming and authentic. Here you will find a sincere atmosphere, reminiscent of truth and fresh wood.

The structure is located at 1000m altitude, in a small rise among the woods of Valmorel. It is owned by the Municipality of Limana, and Mattia is renovating it here and there —with a lot of patience and sweat— to restore its original character. 

At Malga Montegal, people come to eat well, breathe clean air, and enjoy the tranquility of the mountains. 

The landscape strikes you… so green and vast, it brings back memories of American prairies... the beauty of nature and the pastures surrounding this place. 

Moreover, it is full of free animals, all ready to be petted!  “And you can feel that the animals are well”: all the products have a distinctive flavor... rich and tasty! 

Malga Montegal is a true alpine malga, without pretense!
There is an internal dairy, cows grazing on the meadow flowers, and the work begins at dawn —just like old times.
Together with Latteria Turnaria, az. agricola La Schirata, and az. agricola Il Colle del Tiglio, they are the reference centers for local pastoralism… A group that makes Valmorel a true jewel of the Belluno area! 

This malga, 100% autonomous, is a solid reality. It produces cheeses, butter, and smoked ricottas that are “delicacies you won't want to live without”. Luckily, you can buy everything directly on-site

Matia is almost always at the venue, ready to chat with anyone who stops by. We recommend visiting him even during the week, away from the revelry and contagious chaos of Sunday, to enjoy the tranquility of the Malga and get carried away by the owner's mad enthusiasm. 

Montegal is a mountain corner that leaves an impression: for the view, for the aromas of the kitchen, and for the joy of those who work here every day. 

A place that, once discovered, will make you want to return. And stay a little longer.
