- Always plan your excursion beforehand
 - Check the weather and/or avalanche forecast
 - Never go alone and always tell someone where you’re going
 - Set out early in the morning
 - Dress in layers and wear suitable footwear
 - Make sure your backpack is organised and you have everything you need
 - Every activity has its own specific equipment
 - Protect yourself from the sun (cream, hat and sunglasses)
 - When exploring remote snowy terrain in the winter, always carry an avalanche transceiver, shovel and probe
 - Call 118 in an emergency
 - Be prepared to cancel your hike if the conditions are not suitable
