Immersed in the Belluno Dolomites National Park, the Eternal Plains represent one of the most rewarding and significant itineraries in the entire park. This vast karst plateau offers breathtaking scenery, an incredible natural wealth, and the possibility of spotting the wildlife that inhabits these mountains.
An unforgettable hike starting from the former Alpino Boz Hotel in Val Canzoi - Cesiomaggiore (660 m). The first part of the trail leads to Lake Stua and then a steep forest road that soon transforms into a path winding through the woods, following the CAI 802 trail. There are 1100 meters of elevation gain to reach the spectacle of the Eternal Plains, a trail that is not particularly difficult but extremely tiring, which is why the ascent is recommended for trained hikers. Once you pass the notch, the breathtaking view of a dreamy landscape unfolds before your eyes.
An immense alpine meadow, surrounded by majestic and wild peaks. A landscape that enchants and surprises, a true masterpiece of nature. From the notch, we follow the mule track that descends towards Casèra Erera (1,708 m), a summer refreshment point where it is possible to taste local products and stay overnight. Nearby is Casèra Brendol, a bivouac that is always open with a stunning 18th-century stable featuring 25 arches.
For wildlife enthusiasts, a not-to-be-missed stop about an hour from Casera Erera is the Campotorondo Bivouac (1,763 m), spartan but an excellent observation point. With a little luck, you might spot chamois, roe deer, deer, and muflons, the four ungulates that populate the Belluno Dolomites National Park.
The ideal time for this hike is summer, when the temperatures are mild and the days are long, but also autumn with its colors and the chance to see muflons locking horns and hear the roaring of the deer. Ascents in winter are recommended only for trained individuals and should be done with crampons for icy and snowy sections, as well as equipping oneself with snowshoes or alpine skis.
For the hike, it is necessary to wear hiking boots and suitable mountain clothing, including a windbreaker, sunscreen, and a good tick repellent. It is essential to respect the natural environment and not leave any waste, as we are in the protected area of the Belluno Dolomites National Park. For photography enthusiasts, the Eternal Plains offer countless opportunities for unforgettable shots.
The Eternal Plains are a magical place where wild and unspoiled nature reigns supreme. An unforgettable experience for those who wish to immerse themselves in the authentic beauty of the Belluno Dolomites.
