A walk in the heart of Pedavena to rediscover the flavors, knowledge, and trades of the past, when every gesture told the deep connection between people, the land, and animals.
“Between stale and hungry” is a circular route that starts at 2:30 p.m. from the Birreria Pedavena Park and guides participants through several stops where ancient Dolomite traditions come back to life through demonstrations, stories, and, of course, tastings of traditional cuisine.
First stop – Cappellaro Farm
We start at the barn, with milking the cows and the traditional shelling of the corn, two activities that once marked the daily lives of farm families. At the end of the demonstration, a first tasting of a traditional Dolomite dish will allow you to rediscover the simple and genuine flavors of the past through taste.
Second stop – Casel di Facen
The journey continues to Casel di Facen, the site of local cheese-making tradition, where you can witness the preparation of cheese, butter, and ricotta, products that arise from milk processing and have been a fundamental part of the diet and economy of our communities for generations. Here too, the demonstration will conclude with a tasting of a Dolomite traditional dish.
Third stop – Community Garden Villa San Francesco
In the garden of the Community Villa San Francesco, we will go back even further in time, with grape stomping with feet in the tub and a demonstration of the ancient traditional rush-seating, a patient and meticulous art that transformed simple materials into objects destined for daily life. And once again, tradition will be tasted with a Dolomite dish.
Fourth stop – Birreria Pedavena Park
The route concludes where it began, at the Birreria Pedavena Park, with shetland sheep shearing, wool spinning, and a demonstration of traditional embroidery. One last journey through ancient gestures, crafts, and knowledge that risk being lost, but deserve to be preserved and passed down. At the end of the demonstration, there will be a tasting of a dish from the Dolomite tradition.
