Valbelluna May 22, 2026 18:00

Locality: Museo Civico di Belluno - Palazzo Fulcis, Belluno

Valbelluna
Sulle tracce di Bartolomeo Montagna nel Veneto

Conference organized by Francesca Meneghetti from the Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape for the provinces of Verona, Rovigo, and Vicenza, and Alessandro Martoni from the Civic Museums of Vicenza, as part of the celebrations for the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Civic Museum of Belluno.

This meeting will be introduced by Carlo Cavalli, curator of the Civic Museum of Belluno.

Among the paintings of the Giampiccoli Pinacoteca, bequeathed to the city of Belluno in 1872, stand out the two Madonnas with Child by Bartolomeo Montagna, which are still among the most important works of the Civic Museum of Belluno today.

In this conference, following the thread of the recent publication of the volume Bartolomeo Montagna: Works of Veneto, commemorating the 500th anniversary of his death, the two curators will accompany us on a journey through Veneto to discover one of the leading figures of Italian Renaissance painting.

Francesca Meneghetti

She received her doctorate (Udine, 2019) specializing in art history (Padova) and holds a master's degree (Ca' Foscari, 2006). She is the author of publications related to painting and wooden sculpture in Veneto.

Alessandro Martoni

Art historian and curator of the Civic Museum of Palazzo Chiericati in Vicenza, he served as the scientific officer for the Art Collections of the Giorgio Cini Foundation in Venice from 2012 to 2022.

He teaches at the International University of Art in Venice. For years, he has been active in promoting and enhancing the historical, artistic, and architectural heritage of Bassa Romagna, collaborating as a scientific consultant on initiatives promoted by cultural institutions and municipal administrations.

He has published works on painting and Italian miniature from the 15th to the 18th centuries.
