Presentation of Andrea De Bernardin's book "Escape from the Mountain."

“My Province is one of the few entirely mountainous areas of our Country, with its positives and its contradictions. Over the years, I have closely observed the changes in my land and its people and, starting from my personal experience, I have tried to delve into what I would define as – the mountain issue – at a time when it faces significant difficulties; with evident social, cultural, and urban transformations. The certainties that were part of our grandparents' lives have practically disappeared, and while on one hand, evolution has certainly led to an overall improvement in lifestyles, on the other hand, it has too quickly accelerated drastic changes among the mountain inhabitants themselves. In much of the Country, the mountain is literally dying, but saving it and giving it a new life is not impossible.”

Andrea De Bernardin, born and raised at the foot of the Marmolada, has been passionate about history since he was very young, to the point of centering his work on it and drawing inspiration for various appreciated publications. One among others is “The City of Ice, War in the Bowels of the Mountain,” together with colleague Michael Wachtler. He has served as mayor of Rocca Pietore for three terms (from 2009 to 2024). He has contributed to numerous publications on the history and traditions of the Ladin people.
