The Giro-E ENEL is a unique exclusive e-bike experience worldwide, taking place on the days and roads of the Giro d'Italia. Organized by RCS Sport, it is included as a cycling tourism event in the calendar of the Italian Cycling Federation, and the first edition dates back to 2019. Thanks to the use of e-bikes, which allow normally trained cyclists to tackle climbs usually reserved for champions, the event allows all bicycle enthusiasts to experience the Corsa Rosa, following its route; the only changes are the starting locations as well as the stage distance, which is shorter.
The 2024 edition includes 20 stages, with a daily distance ranging from 30 to 85 kilometers. Time trials are also held, which in the Giro-E ENEL become regularity tests.
Each stage is traversed in a compact group, except for some sections, where all participants face regularity tests and special trials with their own Team. In the final phases of each stage, however, the Team captains are engaged in the sprint “exhibition” test before the finish line.
The Giro-E ENEL is held exclusively with pedal-assisted racing bikes (e-road bike), homologated and with 250W motors for a maximum speed limited to 25 km/h, provided by their respective Team.
The stage finish occurs before the Giro d’Italia finish line, but under the same Arch, and the award ceremony takes place on the same podium as the professionals. In each finish location, a VIP hospitality area is set up, an exclusive and reserved area located in a unique location near the Giro d’Italia finish arch: here, all participants find refreshments and have the chance to watch the arrival of the professional cyclists of the Corsa Rosa.
Among its objectives is raising public awareness of sustainable mobility and all issues related to environmental sustainability, also thanks to the new “Green Fun Village” that will follow the Giro-E ENEL in all starting cities.
