The monument to Titian in Pieve di Cadore, created by Antonio Dal Zotto (1880), is part of the nineteenth-century elaboration of the Titian myth, which consecrates the artist as an emblem of Renaissance genius and national cultural tradition. In relation to similar celebratory devices, such as the Frari monument in Venice, it testifies to the progressive overcoming of idealizing models in favor of a more dynamic and expressive representation. In the context of the second half of the nineteenth century, monumentalization is configured as a central tool in the construction and public transmission of the myth of Titian.
