Maria Giuseppina Muzzarelli holds a degree in Philosophy from the University of Bologna with a thesis in Medieval History. She is a researcher and university lecturer at the Faculty of Arts and Philosophy at the University of Bologna, has presided over various cultural institutes in Italy and abroad, and is the author of numerous essays. She is currently a member of the International Society of Franciscan Studies based in Assisi.
