Discover moreBorn in 2021 with the official recognition of the Veneto Region, the Ecomuseum of the Biois Valley embraces the municipalities of Canale d’Agordo, Falcade, and Vallada Agordina.
These three locations, nestled in the heart of the Dolomites, share a strong cultural, linguistic, and folkloric identity, deeply tied to the history and nature of the territory.
Unlike a traditional museum, the Ecomuseum is not enclosed within four walls: it is a diffused museum that lives outdoors and directly involves those who inhabit it. It is indeed the inhabitants themselves, together with the community, who become guardians and promoters of the environmental, historical, and cultural heritage of the valley.
Walking through the towns, trails, and ancient hamlets, it is possible to discover stories, customs, knowledge, and memories that have shaped the identity of this land over the centuries.
The Ecomuseum is indeed a vibrant, dynamic project born to safeguard the roots of the territory and transmit them to future generations and to all those who wish to discover our valley in its various facets. Part of a network that currently includes about 230 ecomuseums across Italy, that of the Biois Valley invites you to experience an authentic adventure, amidst breathtaking landscapes, life stories, and traditions that still speak the genuine language of the mountains.
Every Tuesday afternoon, we await you for an enchanting walk in the heart of Canale d’Agordo, among the streets of the village that saw the growth of Albino Luciani, the future Pope John Paul I.
Accompanied by a guide, we will discover the places that safeguard the memory of this mountain village and its profound cultural identity.
The route will touch upon the Casa delle Regole, a testimony of the ancient local community organization, the old tabià with their typical wooden architecture, and the curious representations of the art of Saints in the windows, an expression of a lively and colorful popular faith.
We will then reach the Garden of Memory, a space for reflection and tribute to the figure of the Pope of Smiles.
The visit will conclude at the birthplace of Pope Luciani, where his humble and luminous story will be retraced, intertwined with that of the village.
An opportunity to get to know closely the cultural and human heritage of an authentic mountain village.
