Giro dei Casel, le tre antiche latterie-museo

Born in 2021 with the official recognition of the Veneto Region, the Ecomuseum of the Biois Valley encompasses the municipalities of Canale d’Agordo, Falcade, and Vallada Agordina.

These three locations, nestled in the heart of the Dolomites, share a strong cultural, linguistic, and folkloric identity, deeply tied to the history and nature of the territory.

Unlike a traditional museum, the Ecomuseum is not confined within four walls: it is a dispersed museum that lives outdoors and directly involves those who inhabit it. It is, in fact, the inhabitants themselves, together with the community, who become guardians and promoters of the environmental, historical, and cultural heritage of the valley.

Walking among the towns, paths, and ancient villages, it is possible to discover stories, customs, knowledge, and memories that have shaped the identity of this land over the centuries.

The Ecomuseum is indeed a living, dynamic project, born to safeguard the roots of the territory and transmit them to future generations and to all those who wish to discover our valley in its various facets.

Part of a network that currently counts about 230 ecomuseums throughout Italy, the one in the Biois Valley invites you to experience an authentic journey, among breathtaking landscapes, life stories, and traditions that still speak the genuine language of the mountains.

Every Wednesday morning, the guide of the Ecomuseum will take you on a visit to the three social dairies located in the higher fractions of the Municipality of Canale d’Agordo to discover their history and activities.

Each “caselo” indeed tells a past made of traditions, rituals, and customs, a snapshot of mountain life: from haymaking to peasant civilization, touching upon the original figure of the peasant poet Valerio Da Pos.
