It was the mid-1960s when master Silvio Antoniol and doctor Ruggero Marchese began to think about creating the Pro Loco of Sovramonte, which officially came into being on June 6, 1967, with the signing of the first statute by the founding members. Andrea Baratto was the first president, Guido D'Incau the secretary, and Silvio Antoniol, Angelo De Faveri, Pietro Giacomel, and Giorgio Reato the council members.
These years also saw the creation of the "folklore ballet of Sovramonte," consisting of a dozen dancers and four musicians, dressed in splendid costumes, who performed during local village festivals and those of neighboring municipalities.
Another very appreciated initiative was the "tourist picnic" at Col Falcon, which attracted people from all the towns of the plateau, as did the "Sgambetaa," a semi-competitive race that crossed all the fractions of the municipality. But a special charm was aroused by the "Gimkana," a summer car racing event featuring skill tests.
The aim of the Pro Loco was to unite all the towns of the Sovramontino in common initiatives, as they often suffered from a certain degree of campanilism due to their distance or historical legacies. The construction of the first playground in Sovramonte, set up in the populous fraction of Sorriva, also dates back to the 1970s.
What followed were also years of intense activity aimed at implementing and regulating tourism, which found its maximum expression in the organization of guest houses. It was July 1980 when the then council, responding to L.R. 35, renewed the statute, thus allowing registration in the regional register of Pro Loco.
The birth and operation of celebration committees, groups, and associations contributed to strengthening and consolidating the voluntary network distributed across the various towns of the Sovramontino.
In 1986, coinciding with the establishment of the provincial Unpli, the then council of Pro Loco Sovramonte, led by President Metella Sirola, signed with the Pro Loco of Arsié, Fonzaso, and Lamon the constitution of the Pro Loco Val Cismon Consortium, the first act of a practical collaboration that saw the Pro Loco of Pedavena join a few years later, leading to the realization of important inter-municipal events.
Towards the end of the 1980s, the subsequent president Ivano De Bortoli and his team brought a more sporting approach to the events, transferring the Trial and Enduro races of Triveneto to Croce d'Aune, and organizing a striking night off-road race on Monte Avena.
The early 1990s were rich in other important initiatives, such as the organization of photography competitions, the participation of Pro Loco Sovramonte in the horseback trekking path "From Venice to Lamon on the Bean Trails," and its participation at the Fieracavalli in Verona.
The new course, under the presidency of Armando Scalet, further strengthened collaboration with other realities, such as the participation in the Bean Festival in Lamon, where Pro Loco Sovramonte was involved for three years in setting up various exhibitions.
In 1997, Giuseppe D'Incau managed to include the new Cai 818 trail in the Sovramontino area and a large group of volunteers set up the signage.
The year that introduced the new millennium was also particularly rich in initiatives, foremost the exhibition of ancient sacred vestments from the Sovramontine churches during the feast of Saint George, the creation of the religious-naturalistic path "Jubilee Itinerary 2000," and the events accompanying the passage of the 83rd Giro d'Italia.
In 2003, during the Feast of Saint George, the valuable exhibition "Fountains, Wash Houses, and Drinking Troughs of the Sovramontino" was set up, and the currently in-force statute, signed by President Luciano Reato and Secretary Anna Dalla Corte, was renewed, allowing registration in the regional register as a Social Promotion Association.
In 2004, Cosimino Colletta took the reins of the association, and the following year saw the publication, in collaboration with the Municipality of Sovramonte, of the Guide to the Territory, History, Art, Traditions, and Nature, edited by Luca De Bortoli.
Since 2006, a calendar of all the events taking place in the various towns of the plateau has been drafted and distributed. Pro Loco Sovramonte and Pro Loco Pedavena have been managing the Iat Tourist Office in Croce d'Aune since 2006, an important gateway to the Dolomiti Bellunesi National Park, and since 2007 have been engaged in creating a recreational-naturalistic path, equipped with games and benches, set against the beautiful backdrop of Monte Vallazza and the Feltrine Peaks.
