Piazza Maggiore

Valbelluna

Valbelluna
Piazza Maggiore

Piazza Maggiore, officially named Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, is the main square of the City of Feltre.

It is the historical center of the city and a place rich in history that dates back to the Middle Ages, as evidenced by the buildings that face it, including the Gazzi and Guarnieri palaces (respectively from the 16th and 19th centuries), the Lombard fountains, the church dedicated to Saints Rocco and Sebastiano, the Clock Tower, and the municipal seat; the square also features the Lion of Saint Mark (a symbol of the dominion of the Serenissima over the city) and two statues dedicated to Vittorinno da Feltre and Panfilo Castaldi. In the immediate vicinity are the Hall of Coats of Arms, the Teatro della Sena, and the Castle of Alboino.

The square hosts every summer the celebrations of the famous Palio di Feltre with the performance of the flag-wavers representing the various factions of the city, which compete for the victory of the Palio.
