The Oasi di Sbarai extends over 30 hectares on the shores of Lake Santa Croce, in the municipality of Farra di Alpago. Among the main natural sites in the province of Belluno, it is a vast wetland area with a variety of different environments related to the variations in the water levels of the lake. This is the ideal habitat for the wintering of many bird species such as the Little Grebe, the Lapwing, the Reed Warbler, the Sedge Warbler, and also the Grey Heron, the White Stork, and the Pond Heron.
The oasis is easily accessible by following a flat path where you can admire, among others, splendid specimens of monumental white willow. A stone's throw from the area, the two rural villages of Bastia and Sitran are worth a visit, with their typical local stone houses often adorned with intricately carved portals.
Light hiking boots are necessary due to the possible presence of small muddy sections of the path. The entire Lake Santa Croce area is suitable for easy walks and hikes, and birdwatching can be practiced, while Farra d'Alpago is a destination for many Nordic walking enthusiasts.
