The open-air museum can be reached on foot from the Falzarego Pass, covering a difference in height of about 650 metres, or by cable car which, in just a few minutes, reaches the summit, connecting the pass (2117 m.) with the Lagazuoi refuge (2752 m.) The Lagazuoi was a veritable fortress dug out of the rock during the First World War, where the Italian and Austro-Hungarian armies had set up numerous military bases. Today it is possible to visit the tunnels, trenches and military emplacements along numerous well-marked stretches, bearing witness to the terrible conflict that took place at high altitude. Sound commentaries from the restored posts illustrate the events of the Great War and there are information panels on site describing the events of the war.
