A pizza of history, art, and wonders
In the center of the village lies the Piazza di Valmorel. A square different from the usual... which is nothing more than a street turned into a square over time, by the will of the community, as a space for gatherings.
Here, the Church and some of the main public buildings overlook, such as the Vejo, the Locanda Valmorel, the Indian Village Museum, and the Epi-Hub of the Elserino Piol Foundation. Furthermore, it is the starting point for many hiking trails in the area and the place where most of the village's events and folk festivals take place.
The square is the first thing you see upon arrival and is always accessible, except for special occasions like the local Farmers' Market and the MagnaLonga...
You will definitely pass through it, so take a moment to enjoy the wonders around you: from the natural landscapes to the art of wood.
Some additional details, that are always useful
Walking in the Piazza di Valmorel is like stepping into a page of a fantastic book... it is a simple space, but full of meanings. A captivating place, where the imagination of Dino Buzzati came to life and elevated Valmorel to a small legend of Italian literature.
A space where people meet: to shop during markets, to participate in an event, or simply to enjoy the tranquility of the village while listening to the surrounding sounds…
Always here, seasonal artisan and agricultural markets are organized: a regular appointment where local producers sell cheese, fresh bread, vegetables, and handmade crafts... A simple yet authentic event that will truly introduce you to Valmorel!
As already mentioned, several places of historical value overlook the Piazza... In addition, a few meters away (from 2026) there will be the Tourist Info Point: where you can gather maps and informational materials. But above all, it is where you can ask for advice and information on how to best explore the territory of Valmorel.
What stands out the most —however— are the wooden sculptures that populate the space... At the four corners of the square are wooden statues, all created by local artists during past events. They represent the identity of the place in 360°, depicting both the mountain and rural life. They are not mere decorations, but a true narrative that stretches across all of Valmorel and is worth observing.
Finally, if you look up at the façade of the Latteria Turnaria, you can admire the bas-reliefs made in honor of “The Miracles of Valmorel.” A unique artistic project, designed by the Fractions Committee for the anniversary of the buzzatian publication, which illustrates the main miracles in 12 wooden panels. A testament —along with the series of itineraries and thematic walks available in the area— to how much the people of Valmorel cherish this character, who was able to immortalize Valmorel in his pages and do justice to it by transforming it into a magical setting where the sacred and the surreal are inextricably intertwined.
In short, the Piazza di Valmorel is a crossroads of lives and a central point for activities in the area.
With informational panels, nearby venues, the events it hosts, and the sculptures that complete it, it is the perfect destination for everyone: literature enthusiasts, art lovers, sports fanatics, and —even— foodies.
A place to pass through, where it is nice to sit and contemplate the world around.
