To give visitors a “business card,” a sample of the hundreds of plant species that thrive in the Park: this need gave rise to the idea of creating a botanical garden in Val del Mis, upstream from the lake, near the access to the Cadini del Brenton.
The botanical garden is also a useful tool for conducting scientific and educational activities focused on the rich flora of the Park (over 1,500 species), which includes many rare plants and attracts both expert botanists and simple enthusiasts.
Inaugurated in July 2008, the garden allows the observation of high-altitude species without the need for difficult and strenuous hikes, which are not feasible for all visitors to the protected area. It is divided into sectors that recreate the main environments of the Park: rocks and scree, wetlands, meadows and pastures, and forest.
The structure has been designed in accordance with the most modern guidelines regarding accessibility for visually impaired individuals, through the use of Braille on educational panels and the creation of a raised relief model of the entire garden.
Particular attention has also been given to the needs of individuals with physical disabilities: the garden is fully accessible and navigable in a wheelchair.
The garden is currently being established, as the timing of nature is respected, planting seeds or small seedlings... so it will take a few years for it to become as beautiful as we hope.
