Chiesa di Sant'Antonio Abate, piazza 30 ottobre n°4 - 32031 Alano di Piave (BL) IT alano@diocesipadova.it

A Christian community in Alano di Piave was already present in the Early Middle Ages. The papal tithe of 1297 mentions a church dedicated to St. Peter, a chapel of the parish of Quero.

In the early 16th century, the parish seat was transferred to the church of St. Anthony the Abbot, more easily accessible for the faithful. The current sacred building originated with the laying of the first stone in 1760, the works were completed in 1778, and the consecration was granted in 1792 by the Bishop of Padua Nicolò Antonio Giustinian.

The construction of the bell tower began in 1888 and was completed in 1917, during World War I, a period during which the church suffered significant damage. Restoration work began in 1919. In 1928, the tiled floor was replaced with a stone one, while in 1938 the collapse of part of the ceiling required prompt restoration work. The last major maintenance intervention dates back to 1996, with the repainting of the walls.

Exterior: The facade, divided into three parts by four pilasters supporting the tympanum, is adorned with a rose window in the shape of a star at the center and two niches containing statues of St. Peter the Apostle and the Blessed Virgin Mary of Sorrows.

Interior: Among the valuable works preserved inside, the altarpiece depicting the Virgin with the Child Jesus in glory among Saints Jerome, Catherine of Alexandria, and Anthony the Abbot stands out, a painting from the Venetian school of the 18th century, the high altar, the marble statue of St. Anthony of Padua with the Child Jesus sculpted in the 17th century by Gabriele Brunelli, and a wooden statuette representing a praying angel.
