We ascend from the Monte Croce Comelico pass along a comfortable forest road. Along the way, we encounter some remnants of the ancient border between the Republic of Venice and the Habsburg Empire, now a regional (and cultural) border between Veneto and South Tyrol. We are accompanied by views of stunning Dolomite peaks and the pyramid of Quaternà/Knieberg, a remnant of an ancient volcano. Packed lunch or at the refuge.
Difficulty: easy. Elevation gain: 400m. Time: 3-4 hours (excluding stops).
