Accompanied by a mountain guide, departure from the Valgrande location in Padola. Following the trail through the woods, we reach the Rifugio Lunelli, and from there we ascend to Monte Colesei, which follows a comfortable military road. The second part of the ascent, outside the vegetation, features a continual alternation of views as we tackle the hairpin bends: from the towering Dolomite walls of Monte Popera and Cima Undici to the west, to the Comelico Valley to the south, from Monte Spina on the other side of the valley to Monte Elmo and the Sesto Valley. Once the ascent is complete, a short descent leads to Forcella Pian della Biscia, located a few meters below the summit of Monte Colesei. From the Forcella, it is possible to continue ascending for a few meters to reach the imposing military fortifications of the Vallo Littorio dating from the World War II period, carved into the vertical wall of Croda Sora i Colesei. From the pass, we proceed towards Passo Monte Croce and from there to Malga Coltrondo where we have lunch. In the afternoon, we return towards Passo Monte Croce and descend to Valgrande.
