On the night of the Epiphany, two companions, Maso and Checco, discuss the truth of a popular belief regarding that night, namely that with the arrival of darkness, animals would talk to each other and that it was forbidden for humans to listen to them, under penalty of being turned into a stump or even death.
Maso, the more curious of the two, approaches a tabià (barn) belonging to a grumpy old woman nicknamed in the village “La Rodosega” and through a crack in the door, he can glimpse and hear the animals inside as they tell tales, fables, and legends about creatures and mountainous elements of the Longaronese area, also conversing about the heraldry of the town's coats of arms before and after the 2014 merger with the town of Castellavazzo.
In the morning, Checco, during his search for Maso, arrives at the tabià: will he find him? In human form or as a stump? Alive...or dead? The ending will be revealed to the audience.
