Up Close with the Sun – Discover Our Star Like Never Before

Who said that stars are only observed at night? At the Helmut Ullrich Astronomical Observatory in Col Druscié, just a few minutes from the center of Cortina d'Ampezzo, the protagonist is the Sun, observed in total safety thanks to a special solar telescope that reveals details invisible to the naked eye. Located at over 1,700 meters altitude, the observatory offers one of the most breathtaking viewpoints of the Dolomites.

During public opening hours, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., you can admire the spectacular sunspots, the granulation of the photosphere, the prominences, and the extraordinary phenomena that animate the surface of our star, accompanied by explanations from experts of the Cortina Astronomical Association. The activity takes place without reservation and is available on days of clear skies.

The observatory can be reached by the Freccia nel Cielo cable car or by a pleasant 20-minute walk from Piè Tofana. Ticket: €5 per person; free entry for children up to 6 years old.
