TWICE CONDEMNED

Can a man be persecuted twice, by the same History but with different faces? The story of Tullio Terni is one of the most shocking and least known pages of twentieth-century Italy.

An internationally renowned scientist, university professor, and member of the Accademia dei Lincei, in 1938 he is expelled from the university for being Jewish, swept away by the violence of fascist racial laws.

But the end of the war does not coincide with the end of injustice. In the atmosphere of purging, Terni is once again condemned, this time as an alleged fascist, by a Country that should have restored his dignity.

On April 25, 1946, a year after the Liberation, he chooses definitive silence. How is this possible? And why has this story remained on the margins of national memory?
