There are stories that traverse the centuries without losing their ability to speak to us. The Odyssey is one of these: the poem of the journey and of discovery, but above all the tale of a man who, after traversing unknown worlds, wars, shipwrecks, and extraordinary encounters, seeks the way to return home.
On Sunday, December 6th, the inauguration of the 35th edition of Una Montagna di Libri entrusts this journey to Daniel Mendelsohn, writer, classicist, critic, and translator among the most authoritative voices in international culture. Fresh from the new English translation of the Odyssey, published in 2025 by the University of Chicago Press, Mendelsohn will guide the audience into the folds of a masterpiece that continues to question the present.
In the lectio magistralis “The Road Home. The Eternal Call of the Odyssey”, in dialogue with Francesco Chiamulera, the return of Odysseus becomes a lens to look at our time: what does it mean to feel at home? How do you build your own identity after losing every point of reference? And what remains when the world we knew no longer exists?
A special appointment to rediscover, through Mendelsohn's voice, the surprising modernity of an ancient journey.
Because, after all, every great adventure begins far away and continues to speak to us at the moment we seek the way back.
Free entry with reservation.
