Remembering Franco, a charity event born to celebrate the memory of a mountain friend through the values that best represented him: sharing, safety, passion for mountaineering, culture, and friendship.
In one of the most extraordinary places in the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, three days open to members, enthusiasts, volunteers, families, and guests will offer opportunities for meeting, training, and cultural deepening, with the aim of supporting a charitable cause and passing on to new generations the love for the mountains lived with awareness and respect.
The initiatives will take place between Cortina d'Ampezzo, Pocol, and the area of the Cinque Torri, one of the symbols of Dolomite mountaineering and the history of the Great War, a destination known internationally for its extraordinary landscape and mountaineering value.
Safety in the mountains: knowledge to help
8:00 p.m. – Ciasa de ra Regoles
The event will open with an evening dedicated to emergency management in mountain environments, conducted by the staff of SUEM 118 of Pieve di Cadore.
Through practical examples, testimonies, and operational experiences, participants will be able to deepen their knowledge of the fundamental principles of first aid, understand how the rescue chain works, and gain greater awareness in facing critical situations in the mountains.
A valuable appointment for hikers, climbers, and casual visitors of the High Lands, in the spirit of prevention and safety culture.
From the basics of climbing to multi-pitch routes
8:30 a.m. – Meeting at the Bar of Hotel Argentina, Pocol
The central day of the event will be dedicated to mountain practice.
After meeting in Pocol, participants will reach the area of the 5 Torri, a true natural laboratory of Dolomite mountaineering, where a technical activity titled:
“From basic rules to progression on multi-pitch routes”
Participants will engage with instructors and experts, deepening topics related to safety, basic maneuvers, rope management, and progression on multi-pitch routes.
The Cinque Torri represent one of the most iconic places in the Dolomites and have served for over a century as a natural gym for generations of climbers from all over the world.
PIADINA DAY from 11:30 a.m.
The morning will continue with the traditional convivial moment of Piadina Day at the headquarters of Cortina Alpine Rescue, in via Codivilla.

6:00 p.m. – Don Pietro Alverà Culture Hall
The conclusion of the event will be entrusted to a cultural meeting of great historical interest:
“The discovery of the Dolomites”
The first explorations and the birth of tourism in the work of Paul Grohmann
Speakers will include:
The meeting is organized in collaboration with Una Montagna di Libri, the prestigious cultural review that has been bringing authors, scholars, and key figures from the international cultural panorama to Cortina for years, helping to make the location one of the alpine capitals of culture.
The conference will retrace the figure of Paul Grohmann, considered one of the fathers of Dolomite mountaineering. His explorations in the second half of the nineteenth century played a decisive role in the scientific understanding of the Dolomite mountains and the birth of modern alpine tourism. Through his stories and publications, the Dolomites began to be known and frequented by travelers, scholars, and climbers from all over Europe.
