Presentation of the Basilica of Saint Mark

In the year of the tenth anniversary of MUSAL – Museo Albino Luciani, the Papa Luciani Foundation enhances the occasion through the planning and organization of weekly summer cultural events that will take place throughout the entire months of July and August.

These events aim to promote culture, local history, and faith, while also leaving ample space for music and new publications.

On Sunday, July 12, 2026, there will be a presentation conference on the Basilica of San Marco, prepared by the scholar and professor Elsa Marchiori, who will guide us through the streets of Venice until we reach Piazza San Marco, where she will focus on explaining the Basilica dedicated to St. Mark the Evangelist, the patron saint of the city, which also houses his relics.

Between history and spirituality, the professor will illustrate the interiors and exteriors of the Basilica, explaining the reasons for its construction and the entire religious and temporal history of the Basilica of San Marco, including the evident Byzantine, Romanesque, Islamic, and Gothic architectural influences that represent the richness and power of the immense building.

We will also retrace various traditional Byzantine representations and masterpieces of medieval art by important artists such as Paolo Veronese, Tintoretto, and Titian.

The Papa Luciani Foundation is pleased to share this proposal with pilgrims visiting Canale d'Agordo, providing informational materials free of charge.

The brochures aim to accompany pilgrims and visitors through the culture and discovery of local history, the great figures of the valley native to Papa Luciani, and music.
