Friday, March 6: In perpetual circular motion. With Antonella Giacomini.

“I believe that for some time I needed a trip like this, completely alone. I think there comes a moment when everyone feels the need to prove something to themselves.” Thus, Antonella Giacomini opens "In perpetual circular motion," the title of the evening and of the chapter in her book “I wanted to see the tundra,” which tells the story of seven weeks in solitude along the Great Trail, the longest cycling route in the world.

After crossing desolate and icy lands often at the ends of the world, Antonella wonders if she is still capable of great adventures, comparing them to waves to ride. And she does this riding a bicycle loaded with 50 kg of luggage, following a project born on paper after reading on social media about the inauguration of this incredible network of bike paths, trails, and backroads that connect the east and west of Canada. With her will be whales, icebergs, free animals in the prairies, and for the last weeks, two fearless friends. She will cross woods, swamps, and flower fields. She will encounter signs urging caution for possible sledding children and will let herself be intoxicated by amber beer and the unmistakable music in the Celtic and Acadian villages, where she will be warmly welcomed by the people. She will ride her wave knowing that... “To each their own sea with many waves to ride. The one thing that is certain is that the height of the waves, over time, probably decreases, but the fundamental thing is that, whatever our wave may be, we should always surf it at its crest.”
