On Mount Grappa, Malga Fontana Secca is reborn thanks to the FAI: a bastion of mountain life where history and nature intertwine in respect of the environment.

The value of pastoralism between ecology and economy.
On Sunday, August 30, at Monte Fontana Secca, the FAI proposes a walk led by Davide Pasut, a forestry doctor who collaborates with the FAI in studying the naturalistic aspects of the site and in planning the return of grazing in these places, dedicated to discovering the ecological role of pastures and pastoral practices. Indeed, the work of the malgari ensures essential ecosystem services: it keeps the spaces open, countering the advance of the forest, promotes greater biodiversity of flora and fauna, supports high-quality agricultural production, and represents an important safeguard for the territory, as well as a lever for local economic development. 
It will also be possible to view the video narrative inside the Casa del malgaro, observe the surrounding pastures, and understand how pastoral activity concretely contributes to the preservation of the ecosystem. Several stops along the route will present the territory and explore the key elements of the topic, not only for informative purposes but also as an opportunity for reflection on the functions and future of an ancient practice — active for over 8000 years — and on the challenges and opportunities faced today by those who work in the high mountains to keep it alive. 
To give space to perceptions and emotions, the pace will be slow, the words essential, and silence a companion on the journey. 

USEFUL INFORMATION:

The route, on a forest road, has an elevation gain of about 300 meters and a duration of about three hours, at a regular pace.
The arrival is expected at Malga Fontana Secca (1461 m a.s.l.), where it will be possible to attend the screening of a video narrative dedicated to the Malga: an opportunity to learn about its history and discover the work that the FAI is carrying out for its enhancement.  
The guided walk and the audio in the video narrative are in Italian. 

This outing requires adequate physical preparation, appropriate clothing for the mountain environment, hiking boots, and possibly trekking poles.
It is advisable to bring at least one water bottle and any snacks, along with a bag to take away your waste.
There are no food services available on site, and there is no parking near the Malga.
Dogs are always welcome as long as they are kept on a leash.

During events and activities organized by us, we document the days through video recordings and photographs, which we then distribute through our institutional communication channels, both online and offline, and make available to local and national press. 

ACCESSIBILITY:

Visitors with disabilities and, where provided, an accompanying person can access for free, according to D.M. 507/97 updated to D.M. 13/2019 and L.104/92. 
In the case of guided tours, events, and additional services, only the additional service fee is required. 
Guide dogs and assistance dogs with training certification for accompanying persons with disabilities are allowed, always on a leash. 
ATTENTION: The site, by its nature, presents strong difficulties of access for people with reduced mobility; visits for wheelchair users are very challenging as they take place on dirt roads and mountain paths.  
For the same reason, the walk is not recommended for children, and the route with strollers is not advised.

HOW TO GET THERE:

From Bassano del Grappa, take the SP 148 / former State Road 141, Strada Cadorna towards Mount Grappa. Continue on the main road, and just before Cima Grappa, take the right turn that leads to Semanzo Campo Croce. Continue on the SP 140 and after about 1.5 km, take the SP 141 to Forcella Bocca di Forca.
From Treviso, take the SR/SS 348 “Feltrina” west towards Montebelluna. Continue on the Feltrina, passing through Montebelluna, until you reach Pederobba; from there, take the  SP 141 to Forcella Bocca di Forca.
From Setteville (BL), take the SP 10 up to the trattoria “Da Miet”. Continue on the SP 141 up to Forcella Bocca di Forca.
From Bocca di Forca reach M.ga Domador continuing past M.ga Valderoa until the next junction (entrance for St.la Cinespa), the starting point of the walk.
Please note that mobile and network coverage is poor or non-existent beyond Bocca di Forca.
Please note that there is no designated parking area and that it is not possible to reach the malga with personal vehicles.
