Knowing a territory means going beyond the landscape and discovering the stories, the people, and the trades that have shaped its identity over the centuries.

The conference From Zoldo to Venice, excellence in trades, entrusted to Fabio Santin, guides the audience through a journey that intertwines history, economy, and culture, highlighting the deep connection between the Val di Zoldo and the Serene Republic of Venice.

A relationship built over time thanks to the work of generations of craftsmen, woodworkers, blacksmiths, and laborers who have managed to transform the resources of the mountains into products of extraordinary quality.

The forests of the valley, rich in precious timber, and the ancient tradition of ironworking have represented a fundamental resource for the local economy for centuries.

The wood from the Belluno Dolomites and the iron worked in the Zoldo forges reached Venice, contributing, among other things, to the construction of the historical organs made by the most important Venetian organ builders.

A heritage of technical knowledge and manual skills that still today tells the story of the valley within a broader network of commercial and cultural exchanges.

The conference thus offers an original lens through which to understand the rich artistic heritage preserved in the churches of the Val di Zoldo.

The historical organs, protagonists of numerous concerts hosted in the area, are not just precious musical instruments: they are the result of a craftsmanship that has deep roots in the natural resources and the skills developed by this community over the centuries.

Behind every wooden case, every pipe, and every decoration lies the work of men who have been able to combine technique, creativity, and a deep understanding of the materials.

The narrative then extends to other trades that have made the valley famous well beyond the boundaries of the Dolomites, showing how Zoldan identity was born from the meeting of the natural environment and human capabilities.

Traditions, productive activities, and relationships with Venice thus become the elements of a narrative that allows one to read the landscape with new eyes, capturing the signs still visible today in the villages, architectures, and artistic testimonies.

More than a history lesson, the meeting represents an opportunity to enter into the authentic spirit of Val di Zoldo and to understand its cultural roots.
