Novembre al centro astronomico di Arson

Novembre al centro astronomico di Arson

In the collective imagination, asteroids are often depicted as threatening rocks wandering through space, ready to strike Earth like in science fiction movies. However, the scientific reality is much more fascinating: these celestial bodies are the true time capsules of our solar system, guardians of the chemical and physical secrets that gave rise to the planets over 4.5 billion years ago. But what are asteroids really? They are celestial rocky bodies that orbit around the Sun, primarily in the belt between Mars and Jupiter, called the Asteroid Belt, but they can also be found in other regions of the Solar System.

They are the remnants of the formation of the Solar System, fragments of rock and metal that did not coalesce to form planets. They vary greatly in size, from small stones to bodies as large as small moons. Some are so small that they can be confused with comets or meteoroids. Their shape can be irregular, and their composition can include minerals, metals, and rock. They are fascinating objects for scientists, who study them to better understand the evolution of the solar system, to examine the potential impact on Earth, and to understand whether they can also be treasure troves of unimaginable resources.

Nicola Busetto from Rheticus' Board will talk extensively about these fragments of cosmic history, offering us a unique opportunity to explore the facets of the nature and evolution of the planetary system to which we belong. Don't miss it!

For the observational part, the moonlit night will allow us to observe with the telescopes of the Center the most beautiful deep sky objects and, as always, a naked-eye overview with the help of lasers of the main stars and constellations of the season.

Entry €5, free for members in good standing with the 2026 renewal and children up to 11 years old. Reservation is not necessary. Punctuality is recommended.

In case of bad weather, the event will take place entirely at the planetarium.
