Locality: Municipal auditorium, Belluno

Valbelluna
New Italian String Quartet

Returning to Belluno, always a very welcome guest of the Circolo Culturale Bellunese, is the New Italian String Trio, continuing its musical path dedicated to op. 9 by Beethoven with a glance at the twentieth century, which in this appointment proposes the String Trio op. 48 by Mieczysław Weinberg, the A minor String Trio op. 32 by Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari, and, of course, the second String Trio op. 9 by Ludwig van Beethoven, among his most beautiful youthful chamber compositions.

"A glance at the twentieth century" that in this concert presents "three composers, three different lives, three contexts distant from one another. Yet, these three string trios are linked by a common character: a more intimate writing, differently expressed by the three authors," as Manrico Bacchetti, author for the Circolo delle illuminanti note di sala, writes.

In concert in Belluno for the third time, the Trio consists of Alessandro Milani on violin, Luca Ranieri on viola, and Pierpaolo Toso on cello.

It was established in 2004, reestablished in 2018, and inherited its name from the glorious historical formation composed of Franco Gulli, Bruno Giuranna, and Giacinto Caramia: the “New” Italian String Trio.

The trio has been invited by numerous institutions and festivals, including the Unione Musicale of Turin, the Amici della Musica of Verona, the Musical Evenings of Milan, the Circolo Culturale Bellunese, the Teatro Verdi of Sassari, Amiata Piano Festival, I Suoni delle Dolomiti, Armonie in Valcerrina, and in 2019 it debuted in China with two concerts in Beijing.

It has to its credit several world premieres of contemporary compositions and collaborations with internationally renowned artists.

Many of its concerts have been broadcast live on Rai Radio 3.

In 2017, the trio inaugurated the "I Concerti del Quirinale" series in the presence of the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella, live on Rai 5.

In 2019, the trio’s first CD, dedicated to Beethoven (Trio op. 3 and Serenade op. 8), was released by Brilliant Classics; a CD featuring music by Schubert and the Divertimento for strings by Mozart is soon to be released, also by Brilliant.

Complete biographies of the artists, information, program notes in PDF, and all concerts of the 73rd concert season 2026 can be found on the website belcircolo.org.
