On Saturday, October 24 at 8:30 p.m. there will be "Lachrymae Regiae" by the Vocal Group Crystal Tears, a concert for choir, clarinet ensemble, and organ dedicated to music composed for the funerals of the great sovereigns of Europe, at the Church of San Pietro.
The title, «royal tears», guides the entire program and contrasts pieces created for two state funerals, in two different courts and over a century apart. Thomas Morley's «Service for the Burial of the Dead» (1557–1602) is linked to the funeral of Elizabeth I of England and sets the funeral rite in the English language through a sober and intense polyphony. Michel Richard de Lalande's «De Profundis» (1657–1726) is the grand motet written for the funeral of Louis XIV of France, in 1715. It unites the solemnity and splendor of court music and gives voice to the penitential psalm «Out of the depths I cry to you.»
In the dialogue between English composure and French magnificence, the concert explores how music has accompanied the mourning of power, transforming public sorrow into prayer and beauty.
Voicing this journey will be the Vocal Group Crystal Tears, conducted by Elettra De Biasi. Accompanying the choir will be a clarinet ensemble composed of Mattia De Biasi, Stefano De Marco, Lorenzo Soppelsa, and Alessandro Muscatello. On the organ, Sebastiano Sitta.
Free admission.
