Dino Buzzati: feeling carried by the wind

On the occasion of the 120th anniversary of the birth of Dino Buzzati, the Civic Library of Belluno, in collaboration with the Ricci Museum, the Dino Buzzati Foundation in Milan, and other local entities, organizes the cultural review "Dino Buzzati: Feeling Carried by the Wind".

The program takes place between September and October and includes two exhibitions and documentary displays at Palazzo Crepadona and Palazzo Fulcis, conferences with scholars and experts, readings, creative workshops for children, and a show at the Dino Buzzati Municipal Theater.

FROM SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 26 TO SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 1 - PALAZZO FULCIS
BUZZATI PAINTER. THE MECHANISMS OF CREATION
Exhibition curated by Marco Perale, President of the International Dino Buzzati Association. The exhibition presents about fifteen unpublished drawings traced on tracing paper, which document for the first time a technique often used by Dino Buzzati between 1965 and 1968, after the discovery of Pop Art that arrived in Venice with the 1964 Biennale. During those years, as he himself recounts, Buzzati often made use of the Episcopio, a kind of projector that allowed him to reproduce directly onto the canvas his drawings, as well as photographs, illustrations, comics, or advertisements.

FROM FRIDAY, OCTOBER 16 TO FRIDAY, OCTOBER 30 - PALAZZO CREPADONA
THE BOOKS OF DINO BUZZATI: EDITIONS AND PUBLISHERS
From "Bàrnabo of the Mountains" to "The Tartar Steppe", from "The Secret of the Old Woods" to "A Love", passing through "The Famous Invasion of the Bears in Sicily", "The Book of Pipes" and the short story collections. The exhibition, curated by Lorenzo Viganò and the Civic Library, retraces the literary work of Dino Buzzati through the first editions of his books and some foreign translations.

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 16 - PALAZZO CREPADONA

5:30 p.m.: Inauguration of the exhibition "The Books of Dino Buzzati: Editions and Publishers".
Introduced by Lorenzo Viganò, President of the Dino Buzzati Foundation and curator of his works. Free admission until seats are filled.

6:30 p.m.30: The Square of the Martyrs from Marco Ricci to Dino Buzzati. Genesis of a “Miracle”.
Conference by Marco Perale, President of the International Dino Buzzati Association. The last of the thirty-nine “Miracles of Val Morel” titled “The Martians” is set in the square of the ancient city of Cornia, invaded by extraterrestrials with long horns, with the inhabitants resisting aided by Santa Rita who leads a blue air formation against the red alien spaceships of the Martians. However, while studying the image and examining the buildings and church depicted, it is discovered that, between war chronicles and economic boom, the model was an 18th-century painting by Marco Ricci that Buzzati had seen precisely at the Museum of Belluno. And which today testifies to the reason for the heated debate that pitted the great journalist against his hometown at the end of the 1950s. Free admission until seats are filled.

8:30 p.m.: The Miracles of Val Morel.
Directed by Paolo Valerio. With Rosanna Valier and Alessandro Dinuzzi. Production: Teatro Stabile del Veneto and Circolo Cultura e Stampa Bellunese.
Between music and a subtle analysis of the paintings published in the eponymous volume, the show proposes a journey through the themes dear to Buzzati as a novelist and painter: destiny, the fantastic, the passage of time, noir. A story in thirty-nine very short chapters – an album of imaginary ex-votos honored in the buzzatian sanctuary of Val Morel – in which the author recounts places and memories heard or perhaps dreamed throughout his life. Free admission until seats are filled.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 17

10:30 a.m. at Palazzo Crepadona: Praise of Bread
Scenic reading with tasting.
"Give us back the bread!”: so Dino Buzzati thundered from the columns of the “Corriere d’Informazione” in 1957, recording the decline of authentic bread in favor of modern sophisticated and disguised versions. Bread, only seemingly humble and everyday, can tell - as we will discover in this meeting - our cultural evolution much more than we imagine.
Speakers: Francesco Piero Franchi, Honorary Academician of the Italian Academy of Cuisine and Franco Zambotto, Emeritus Delegate of the Italian Academy of Cuisine. Moderated by: Lorenzo Viganò. Readings: The Outlaws. The listening will be accompanied by a guided tasting of traditional breads. Free admission until seats are filled.

3:00 p.m.00 at the Cultural Center il Granaio of Villa Buzzati
Annual Assembly of the International Dino Buzzati Association
Followed by: the awarding of annual scholarships to Italian and foreign students. Initiative in collaboration with the Cultural Association Villa Buzzati.

6:00 p.m. at Palazzo Crepadona
Dino Buzzati and the Art of Poetically Surviving
Meeting with Beppe Severgnini on the occasion of the release of his new book. The renowned journalist and writer, an illustrious columnist for “Corriere della Sera”, dialogues with Lorenzo Viganò about the figure and work of Dino Buzzati in relation to the thaumaturgical power of poetry, essential for our survival. This theme is the basis of his new book presented here in absolute preview, in a sort of “date zero” of his tour.
Admission by reservation at the following link: https://tinyurl.com/Buzzati-Severgnini

8:45 p.m. at the Dino Buzzati Municipal Theater
Seven Floors by Dino Buzzati
Theatrical adaptation and direction: Giuseppe Nitti. With Luchino Giordana and Giuseppe Nitti. Music by Elio d’Alessandro. In collaboration with Hermit Crab.
The play narrates the story of the affluent bourgeois Giuseppe Corte who, hospitalized for a slight malaise in Professor Schroeder's cutting-edge clinic, will be the protagonist of a slow “descent into hell.” With various and incomprehensible pretexts, which will elicit his protests and indignations, he will in fact be forced to progressively move from the Seventh floor, where the less serious patients are, to the first, which hosts the terminal ones. The piece, written by the same Dino Buzzati, is based on his story "Seven Floors".

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DINO!
Readings and workshops for children and teenagers at the Civic Library of Palazzo Crepadona. Reservation required: biblioteca@comune.belluno.it, phone 0437 913303.

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 15 AT 4:00 p.m.
Bears, Dragons, Babau, Colombre. The Fantastic Bestiary of Dino Buzzati.
Curated by Elisa Miorin. Event for children of primary school age. Discover with us an incredible universe of monsters! They are scary but only until you unveil their secret: each is the shape of our emotions and desires.

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 16 AT 4:00 p.m.
Painting and Writing are the Same Thing!
Curated by Sabina D'Isep and Lausa Sommavilla. Event for middle school students. “The Famous Invasion of the Bears in Sicily” did not originate from a page full of words, but from one of doodled drawings, and this time the ending is up to us. How do we do it? We draw a card, roll a die, discover an image… and boom! A story waiting to be created.
