Beyond the Vertigo

Twenty years after his passing, Cortina d'Ampezzo pays tribute to Giovanni Cenacchi, mountaineer, writer, journalist, and extraordinary interpreter of the highland culture. Born in Cortina and deeply connected to its mountains, Cenacchi has narrated the Dolomites with a gaze free from any rhetoric: not as a stage for exploits, but as a place of memory, beauty, and truth.

The event retraces his extraordinary human and intellectual journey through the screening of the award-winning documentary The Knights of Vertigo, winner of the Genziana d'Oro CAI at the Trento Film Festival in 2000.

An intense work that recalls the historic conquest of the Direct Route on the North Face of the Cima Ovest di Lavaredo, enriched by the participation of key figures from the Scoiattoli di Cortina, including Mario Lacedelli, Massimo Da Pozzo, and Nadia Dimai, authentic guardians of the spirit of Ampezzan mountaineering.

It will also be an occasion to remember Cenacchi's valuable contribution to the memory of the Dolomites through the volume The Squirrels of Cortina, a fundamental work dedicated to the history of the famous mountaineering association.

An encounter dedicated not only to an author, but to a vision of the mountain capable of speaking even today with rare depth.
