ValbellunaSuggestions for spending a weekend in the snowy Dolomites
Discover moreIn the locality of Santa Libera lies the ancient mill, whose wheels were already operational in 1526 and which, until its closure in 1980, changed hands among the local and Venetian noble families.
The mill of Santa Libera tells a story spanning many centuries, connected to the territory of Santa Giustina and the waters of the Veses stream. As early as 1526, two flour wheels were in operation, and over the centuries, various owners took turns, often local or Venetian noble families. It was closed by its last owners, the Zanandrea family, in 1981. The two-story mill building is part of an ancient rural courtyard, with the milling equipment and installations on the ground floor and the granary on the upper floor. Thanks to the municipal administration of Santa Giustina, in 2004 the mill was restored and reopened to the public. Guided tours are available upon request, with opportunities for milling demonstrations, educational workshops, excursions, and guided visits along the ancient waterways of the Santa Giustina territory that lead to the Mill of Santa Libera in Salzan.
