Lake Federa

Lake Federa | © bandion

Lake Federa, among the Dolomites of Cortina d’Ampezzo, is a spectacular green-water alpine lake surrounded by towering rock walls.

To reach its altitude of 2,046 metres above sea level, you can choose one of several hiking or MTB trails. Awaiting you is the spectacular body of water in which Croda da Lago and Becco di Mezzodì are reflected.

Right next to the lake stands the Croda da Lago mountain shelter, open in summer and autumn. Try local dishes and, for a truly unique experience, relax in the sauna with a view.

Lake Federa is worth a visit in all seasons, but autumn has a charm all its own. The foliage, the larch trees tinged with yellow and contrasting with the rugged rock walls and the emerald green of the lake, make the view even more unique.

Curiosities

  • The two most common routes to reach Lake Federa are from Giau Pass and Ru Curto, but the lake can also be reached from: Campo di Sotto by following Path 432; Lake Pianozes by following the Gores de Federa Path; Peziè de Parù by following Path 434; Lake Ajal by following dirt road 430, Path 431 and Path 434; Città di Fiume mountain shelter by passing through Forcella de la Puina, Col Roan and Ambrizzola
  • During the winter, Gores de Federa Trail becomes a beautiful sight to be travelled with snowshoes.
  • If you choose the ascent from Giau Pass on the way to the lake, you will encounter the Mondeval Plateau where the Mesolithic burial site of the Mondeval Man, now preserved at the Vittorino Cazzetta Museum, was found
