The Civetta is a mountain that evokes historic climbing feats and famous mountain bike races. However, not everyone knows that a wonderful cycling ring winds through the challenging Passo Duran and Forcella Staulanza, whose ascents have often been the stage of the Giro d'Italia.
The starting point is set in Forno di Zoldo, one of the three locations in the municipality of Valle di Zoldo, the cradle of artisanal ice cream. The ride begins with a pleasant ascent through villages and fractions rich in culture and tradition.
Upon reaching Zoldo Alto, the ski lifts that serve the slopes in winter are left to the left, also illuminated for night skiing, and one continues with a fun succession of narrow, scenic switchbacks towards Palafavera, a renowned Nordic skiing and Biathlon center.
One then climbs towards Forcella Staulanza at an altitude of 1750, accompanied on the right by the grandeur of Monte Pelmo, and launches down the steep descent leading to Selva di Cadore, a ski resort and home of the Vittorino Cazzetta Museum.
The route continues towards Colle Santa Lucia until the terrace of the “Belvedere” where a stop is mandatory. From here, the descent towards Caprile, Alleghe, and Agordo begins, where one ascends towards Passo Duran, a challenging 12 km stretch with a constant gradient of about 1000 m of elevation change.
The descent to Val di Zoldo is treacherous and requires caution until Dont, before retracing the pleasant stretch that leads back to Val di Zoldo, already ascended on the way out.
Length 80 Km, Elevation gain 2,098 m
