The Vittorino Cazzetta Museum is located in Selva di Cadore in Val Fiornetina. The exhibition route offers a journey through paleontology, archaeology, and the history of the Dolomites. The visit begins with the rooms dedicated to the formation of these mountains, where you can find the first fossil dinosaur footprints discovered in Italy, and continues with the prehistoric section, which houses the Mesolithic burial of Valmo – the Man of Mondeval, the hunter who lived 8000 years ago and was buried at over 2000 m above sea level. The route concludes with a section dedicated to the use of high mountains from the Neolithic to modern times. The museum aims to provide visitors with an overview of the Dolomites and serve as a reference point for the cultural realities of the area.
Open all year round, except for the month of November, guided tours, educational, and outreach activities are available, also by reservation.
