The Vedana Lake is a small glacial water body, dominated by the Monti del Sole with the peak of Monte Peron standing out in its tranquil waters.
The biotope in which it is immersed is of great naturalistic interest, at the gates of the Belluno Dolomites National Park, it occupies a small depression caused by an ancient riverbed of the Cordevole River, within an area called Masiere, a vast expanse of large boulders and debris now largely covered by pioneering vegetation.
Vedana Lake and the peat meadows of "Le Torbe" constitute "wet oases"; the lake is fed by underground water veins, along the direction of an ancient abandoned valley of the Cordevole torrent.
The entire area is very interesting from a faunistic point of view, inhabited by many reptiles and amphibians, various bird species nest here, and at its edges, we often find roe deer and deer.
In its waters, we find numerous types of fish that make it a popular lake for those who practice sport fishing.
Near San Gottardo stands the Certosa di Vedana, an ancient Carthusian monastery.
