In the heart of Perarolo di Cadore, inside an elegant 19th-century building surrounded by a terraced garden, the Museum of Cidolo and Wood tells the ancient connection between the Cadore communities, the forests, and the rivers. Here, the history of Perarolo comes to life, once a crucial crossroads for the timber trade heading to Venice.
Working tools, maps, documents, photographs, and historical films guide visitors in discovering the life of lumberjacks, menadàs, and segantini. The absolute protagonist is the cidolo, the ingenious river structure that allowed the retention and sorting of logs: a symbol of local ingenuity and the millennia-old relationship between man, forest, and water.
The visit concludes with a painting workshop dedicated to the ancient house marks, used to brand logs and boards destined for the construction of the Serenissima. An authentic, immersive, and unforgettable experience.
