San Francesco nella Divina Commedia

Borgo Piave ETC aps, on the occasion of the 800th anniversary of the death of Saint Francis, offers an in-depth look at the XI Canto of the Paradise of the Divine Comedy with Dr. Maurizio Mellini, a Dante enthusiast, who will recite and comment on the canto of paradise also with the help of a selection of images of places and works of art that will take the listener on a real journey through time and the places of the poor man of Assisi.

“Eight hundred years after the death of Saint Francis, let us retrace his life and his message centered on evangelical poverty so far from our times” comments Mellini himself. The supreme poet indeed defines Francis as “Orient” because he is like a sun capable of illuminating the world through his love for an extraordinary woman, Poverty, who was left alone after the death of Christ, rejected and hated by all. Francis, however, passionately falls in love with her and decides to marry her, even at the cost of going to war with his father. It is a joyous marriage full of happiness for both, a happiness that is contagious to those who see them, so much so that many follow the two spouses to form with them a large and united family in love. With his inspired verses, Dante also narrates the approval of the Franciscan order by the pope, then Francis's journey to Syria to spread Christianity in those lands, and finally the return to Italy, the conferring of the stigmata on Mount Verna, and his death.
