Pilgrimage to the Sentinel Pass 2026: Memory and Tradition in Comelico Superiore
From September 11 to 13, 2026, Comelico Superiore will once again embrace history with the traditional Pilgrimage to the Sentinel Pass, a solemn event promoted by the Alpini Group to honor the Fallen and preserve the memory of the Great War. Amidst the imposing peaks of the Dolomites, the event combines a moment of reflection, hiking, and camaraderie. Friday, September 11: Evening opening at the Alpini headquarters with the cultural evening "The Capture of Cima Vallona June 9-12, 1915," with narrating voices, curated by Damiano Leonetti.
Saturday, September 12: Departure in the morning from the Lunelli Refuge for the ascent to the 2,717 meters of the Sentinel Pass, where a flower laying ceremony and a Holy Mass will be held at the foot of the Popera Glacier. In the afternoon, honors to the fallen and flower laying at Candide. Musical entertainment with the Alpine Band between Candide, Dosoledo, and Padola.
Sunday, September 13: Closing day with the parade from Dosoledo to Padola, accompanied by the Band, followed by the Mass led by the female choir of Codissago and the trumpet of Toni Camatta.
