On Tuesday, September 22 at 8:30 p.m. at the Palazzo Bianco of the Confindustria di Feltre, the TAM group organizes a public meeting on the theme “ABANDONED VILLAGES: lost and saved.” The occasion has been provided by the awarding of the “Custodian of the High Lands” Prize by the Central Scientific Committee of the CAI to the Lamonese Giulio Tollardo for his thirty years of care and maintenance of Borgo Bellotti.
But many other abandoned villages exist in our mountainous territory, some irretrievably lost (Gena Bassa, California, Fumegai), others saved and revived (in addition to Bellotti, Gena Media and Alta, Montagne). Mauro Varotto, a geography professor at the University of Padua, one of the most authoritative voices on contemporary mountains, will speak on this topic, supported by testimonials from Tollardo himself and Antonio De Marchi, a local history, culture, and environment enthusiast, about the events of the Fumegai settlement.
