On Saturday, January 24, there will be a live reading and sound design of "The Voice of Bianca", an episode related to Castion and the Belluno area from the Rai Play Sound podcast "The Great Family" with Cristiano Barducci and Alexandra Genzin, at the Teatro San Gaetano in Castion.
Episode 5 of the podcast
The Voice of Bianca
1954: Linda Capraro sends ten labels of peeled tomatoes from New Jersey to hear her relatives from Castion, in Veneto. In search of the Capraro family, half of whom emigrated to Argentina and the United States, Cristiano contacts a local historian who plays the recording in the village. To his surprise, a neighbor recognizes many familiar voices, including that of Sister Bianca, who disappeared years ago and was a child at the time of the broadcast. From Castion, Cristiano then travels to Cadore, where Gianni, a former mountain guide, has much to tell about emigration from the mountains to the United States.
The Great Family
In the 1950s, a radio station in New York creates The Great Family, a program for Italian Americans sponsored by a tomato company. The mechanism is simple yet brilliant: in exchange for ten labels as proof of purchase, a correspondent would go to record the voices of relatives in Italy. In a world without telephones, the thirteen seasons of the show represented for many people the only connection to their loved ones and homeland. In 2022, Cristiano, the podcast's author, discovers that there are thousands of records in America with recordings of the show, sent as keepsakes by the radio to the participating families. Thus begins a search that reconnects the threads of personal and collective memories, starting from an extraordinary sound archive. The Great Family is an Original RaiPlay Sound podcast by Cristiano Barducci, artistic direction Andrea Borgnino, editing Alexandra Genzini, sound design Massimo Verolini and Alfredo Morana, editors Luca Franco and Paola Manduca, archive research Arianna Biagi, production manager Giulia Giannuli.
