The legendary saxophonist Lou Marini - a member of the original Blues Brothers Band who participated in the film The Blues Brothers - and the versatile Italian drummer Enzo Zirilli first met on stage at the legendary Ronnie Scott’s in London, discovering an immediate synergy.
From the desire to play together again, the “Italian Groovers” were born: a versatile formation that effortlessly navigates between Jazz, Blues, Soul, and Funk, featuring the talents of Gianluca Di Ienno on organ and Alessandro Chiappetta on guitar.
The project is already on its third tour in less than two years and is working on an upcoming album, “Playtime”.
“One of the blessings of this life in music has been the company of so many great musicians (artists, actually).
We are fellow travelers on an endless road, and Lou Marini is the wandering prince of this free community, a true friend and, above all, a lover of music; everywhere, always, at every moment. His enthusiasm and goodwill shine even on the darkest days and transform work into pleasure. Lou loves life, and it is returned to him...” - James Taylor, Singer-Songwriter.
Lou Marini's resume is a journey through the history of music: from Frank Zappa to Tony Bennett, from Barbra Streisand to James Taylor, from Donald Fagen to Steely Dan, to Al Jarreau and many others.
Alongside him and the prestigious Enzo Zirilli (drummer for Dado Moroni, Gloria Gaynor, Enrico Pieranunzi, Peter Bernstein, Jim Mullen...) are two other excellences of Italian jazz: Gianluca Di Ienno (previously with Fabrizio Bosso, Bebo Ferra) and Alessandro Chiappetta (alongside Paolo Fresu, Roberto Gatto, Ares Tavolazzi).
Together they form a supergroup that moves with absolute freedom between original compositions and jazz, soul, and funk classics, for an overwhelming groove concert not to be missed.
